15-18. ‘O Mother dear ... parents’ home.’ This is an imaginary dialogue similar to ancient funerary inscriptions between a dying person and a loved one. One such example comes from the Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum: "To the spirits of the departed of Ampliata who lived 4 years 6 months 24 days. Pedonia Primigenia set this up for her dearest slave. Don’t grieve, mamma, this should have happened, my time of life has been quick, because my destiny willed it" (VI 11592).
